Have Your Bad Foods Carefully

Friday, March 12th, 2010

There has been a huge rise in consciousness of what we eat in recent years. We have all been taught that eating fruit and vegetables is good for us. On the flip side, we have also been taught that eating lots of fatty foods will give us heart attacks and lead to obesity.

How true is all of that? How much attention should we really be paying to what we put into our bodies?

I should start by saying that I am a fan of being healthy. I try to keep myself active. I try to work out at least four times a week. I try not to overload on junk food. However, “try” is the key word here.

Growing up, I had my fair share of junk food, just as most of us did. But I turned out fine. Am I one of the lucky ones?

Some of the people that I grew up with are already suffering health problems, which are largely related to their diets while growing up. Two of these people are obese, and one came from two thin parents so I doubt it is genetic. Another person I grew up with is currently suffering bowel problems.

At least two of these friends had absolutely horrid diets while they were growing up. I’m talking about daily lunch at the deli, sugary soft drinks, many sweets, and at any time of the day or night. Also one of those friends smoked, so I am sure that didn’t help his current health.

Even worse though, is that many of the teenagers I see now are following in those unhealthy footsteps. Some people, like the friends mentioned above, did eat like that while I was growing up, but it was no where near as much as is happening in today’s world.

Yes, eating junk food does affect us negatively. It is not that you cannot eat it, but that if you must eat it, do so in moderation.

The gap between these young kids of the ‘Jamie Oliver’ generation and my own generation is never so obvious as when I look at our common eating habits. However, providing that these kids do not pass their bad habits on to their own kids, and the new heath consciousness keeps up, I am sure this won’t be a long term problem.

Milk Needs To Be A Regular Presence In Our Diets

Friday, March 12th, 2010

It is common knowledge that milk is every bit beneficial to our bodies. Many may not be aware though that its many benefits do not come from milk as a whole, but rather the many parts that consists it.

For instance, casein which is a protein derived from milk is used to make cheese. It is known to have roughly similar health benefits to milk.

Whey on the other hand, contains most of the protein derivatives from milk in addition to lactose, minerals and various vitamins. This is mainly due to the fact that it is a remarkable byproduct in producing cheese.

It is also possible to isolate whey protein from milk to produce a substance that is rich in protein and nothing else. In fact, this isolated whey protein is in wide use today among body builders as a health supplement.

Lately, many people had been expressing concerns about involving butter in any food preparations. What they may not realize is that butter can be found on your everyday glass of milk and can be good for the body in moderate quantities.

The most effective solution is to keep in mind that everything must be done in moderation. Fixing meals dripping buckets of melted butter is indeed a very unhealthy idea. However, our body needs sufficient amount of fat in order to stay in good shape.

Did you know that the human brain is comprised of about two thirds body fat? Fat certainly has its share of uses and is not all that bad as everyone may think.

It’s easy to overlook the nutritional value of something that is so ultimately concentrated in milk. However, it would be best not to consider it as a common trend which will make us end up rejecting many things that could have been put to good use.

The Influential Outcome Of Antioxidants On Your Healthiness

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Our bodies need oxygen to live yet the use of oxygen in our bodies causes oxidative injury. When our bodies use oxygen, free radicals are produced. A free radical is a molecule that is absent one or more electrons. These molecules are highly erratic and can cause a immense amount of harm. Antioxidants are a group of nutrients found in food that are identified to check or slow down the effects of oxidative damage in our bodies.

An antioxidant will come in and attach to a free radical by donating the missing electron. Most of the beneficial foods found in nature are rich in antioxidants and including these foods in your diet can increase your immune system and help to thwart disease such as heart disease and cancer and other problems characteristically linked with aging.

Some of the premier antioxidant foods are the berries. Blueberries, cranberries, blackberries and even grapes and cherries are all high in antioxidants. The ORAC or Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity is how antioxidant activity in food is measured. All berries have a high ORAC level but the food with the highest ORAC level is in point of fact the acai berry. There are a few items with a higher ORAC level including ground cinnamon and cloves but as far as tangible food the acai berry surpasses every one.

Fruits that have a high level of antioxidants include the citrus category, orange, grapefruit and lemons and many of the more tropical fruits such as kiwi, mango and papaya. Apples, pears and plums are also excellent.

Other foods that are elevated in antioxidants incorporate many everyday vegetables. Greens such as spinach, kale, Swiss chard and dandelion greens are very high in antioxidants as are the cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower.

Pumpkins and most other orange foods are high in beta-carotene, which is a precursor to vitamin A. Beta-carotene is transformed to vitamin A in our bodies. Beta-carotene is best provided by diet, as supplements of this nutrient have been known to bring about tribulations, especially in smokers. Most of the orange foods, such as pumpkins, carrots, sweet potatoes and squash bestow a generous quantity.

A multi-colored diet is the top way to receive an plentiful supply of antioxidants. The deep and vibrantly colored foods from nature provide the maximum concentration of antioxidants. Oranges from pumpkins, carrots and sweet potatoes, deep purples and red from the berries and greens from spinach and cruciferous vegetables and red tomatoes and watermelon are all clues to high antioxidant matter.

Ongoing exploration into antioxidants is proving more and more advantages for our wellbeing. Enhanced immune function can inhibit diseases like heart disease and cancers along with conditions that are ordinary with age like macular degeneration and Alzheimer’s disease.

Acai berries give very important nutrition our bodies need to lose fat. For more information about acai products stop by my blog at http://acaiwow.com

4 Ways to Save Money When Buying Healthy Food

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

We are always told to make healthier choices when we eat, but the healthy food is usually the most expensive, grain fed chickens, organic veg, free range eggs, it all adds up! But with a few simple changes in how you shop then you can get healthier food without having to pay through the nose for it, here’s how:

Eat more fish - Fish is a great meat to eat, it is tasty and healthy at the same time, and I don’t just mean the expensive cuts of fresh fish either, any kind of fish is going to better for you than none. So grab some tinned tuna to make a sandwich out of, and when you are buying stuff to put in the freezer then grab some ready meals with fish in, and some fish slices, it is all a step in the right direction!

Take your own lunch to work - If you don’t take your own lunch to work then unless you have a work cafeteria with really healthy options (rare) then you are going to be sucked into getting less healthy foods, and more than likely paying more for them! So bag your own lunch, you can put a little treat of chocolate in there, but also have a sandwich and some fruit and maybe some nuts, that is healthy, tasty and cheap too!

Don’t be afraid of discounted goods - Supermarkets will heavily discount things that don’t sell and won’t stay fresh, even though there is some good life left in them, they just want them off the shelves. Don’t be afraid to go to the supermarket in the evening and roam the bakery aisle looking for people discounting the baked goods. You can get loaves of bread for next to nothing, or bagels for your breakfast the next day.

You can get discounted fruit and veg as well don’t forget, but you need to be more careful with this, so have a look through and pick out the items in the best condition. You can pick up some really healthy foods this way at bargain prices.

Buy straight from the farmer - Are there any farmers markets near you? Have a check and see. Or what about farms? Some farms have their own little shops right on site, and as the fruit and veg hasn’t been sold to the big supermarkets to be frozen and transported around, then often it is a lot cheaper and healthier than the stuff you’ll find in the supermarkets. If you are a regular customer you can even ask them to deliver you a box of fresh veg every week to save you having to go out of your way.

As you can see then there are lots of ways for you to get healthy and tasty food, without having to pay for the privilege. Don’t try and jump in and do all these at once or you’ll burn yourself out and give up, instead start to add in one method every few months, and in a years time you’ll look back and wonder why you didn’t make the change sooner!

If you really want to start eating healthily and maybe lose some of the pounds that junk food added to your frame, then check out this Eat Stop Eat review.
