Remote Control Models – The Helicopter

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

If you like remote controlled models and have plenty of space, then you might want to think about buying one of the new big remote control helicopters that have recently been introduced by several makes. These helicopters, which can occasionally be as large as ten feet long, rival real helicopters in dexterity. They are expensive and can set you back three thousand dollars or more.

As with many fads, some people just have to possess one of their own. So, the next time you are walking in the park and you see a helicopter flying around, look again closely. At first you will probably think that it is a real helicopter that is just further away then you first thought. But look again and you will almost certainly see someone controlling the helicopter with a huge remote control unit.

If you see one of these remote controlled helicopters in flight, consider yourself very fortunate. Because it is so costly to own one of these beauties, they are also still pretty uncommon. However, because I am an ardent collector myself, I have considered buying one of these big remote control helicopters, and I even put a bid on one in Ebay once, but in the end I did not get it and instead decided to wait until the cost comes down a bit more.

Just as with any new, trendy item, big remote control helicopters are the latest fad, but in a few years, I am sure there will be a better supply and the price will fall. Then I will be ready and waiting to buy. But until then, I have a very bighearted and rich friend who owns one, and I will rehearse flying his. I have already taken it out once – it is so much more powerful than the normal, small remote control helicopters that you are most likely used to. When you first turn it on, the big remote control helicopter?s rotors spin with such ferociousness, that you may worry that you are going to break something. and then, when it lifts off the ground, you will experience a huge sense of achievement, knowing that you are the one who is controlling it.

And if you are able to make a successful, smooth landing as well, then you can truly call yourself a helicopter pilot, because even those very experienced with small remote control helicopters will be impressed to see someone land a big remote control helicopter, because it really is completely different. So if you happen to be lucky, well-off, or just single-minded enough to purchase one of your own, take pleasure in your time with your giant helicopter.

I guarantee you that it will be one of the most exciting experiences of your life. For me, the entire process was surreal, and when it was all over, I had to phone everyone I knew and tell them how I had flown a 10 foot helicopter and landed it smoothly. I bet that?s how pilots feel the first time they fly a real aircraft.

Enjoying A Healthy Life By Eating Healthier

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

How many times do you have delivered or takeout food in a week? If you have no skills at all in the kitchen and if you are busy balancing a day job and a part time, chances are you live or thrive on fast food for your everyday nourishment.

However, have you ever asked yourself if the food you are eating actually nourishes you, or kills you slowly but surely? Sure it may be filling but that is primarily because it is filled with all the bad stuff you could read right from a cancer guide book.

Seeing one of those bright, shiny signs and the smell of fries may tempt you into buying that disgusting fast food, but instead you should build immunity to its seducing qualities, and focus on consuming more healthy foods.

Just because it is good for you, it does not mean that it will take forever to prepare. There are healthy and easy options out there, you just have to look a bit harder and do some research.

Rather than having that fatty pizza with those extra cheesy crusts, maybe you could get some nice fruit, like bananas, and melons, and kiwi, at your local green grocer and take them with you. The best thing is these options won’t cost as much and are better for you.

In the morning, try cereal or eggs for breakfast. These are extremely easy and quick to make, and you can add an orange or some other type of fruit to the mix if you want.

Dried fruit and nuts are excellent snacks during the day – even popcorn is healthier than chips. These snacking substitutes will hold you over until you can eat an effective, healthy meal.

You can always treat yourself to a junk food binge every so often. Just remember that this is only a treat, not a habit, and to keep it that way.

Prevent Your Dog From Eating Dangerous Foods

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

I’m sure most dog owners will admit that they love spoiling their dog with human food. Even though man’s best friend doesn’t mind finishing off those leftovers or helping you make room in your fridge, they cannot handle some of our people food.

Caffeine is arguably their archrival. Foods containing this drug such as chocolate, coffee, or tea, should not go anywhere near your dog for they can cause death. A substance within caffeine called theobromine causes cardiac arrest by affecting your dog’s nervous system.

Stone fruits like apricots and cherries are also bad for your dog and can hurt his or her stomach. Although the fatal ingredient is unknown they can severely affect the internal organs

You should never give your dog cat food, even if you run out of his treats. They are made with different ingredients and cat food has far too many proteins and fatty acids. Cat food could make your dog serious sick or even kill him.

In addition, macadamia nuts can cause errors within the digestive and nervous system, and can also cause harm to your dog’s muscles. The source behind this mysterious consequence is still unknown; however, just realize these nuts should be avoided.

A more general tip to bear in mind is to always pay close attention to your dog’s allergies. There are always alternatives out there, and it is important to use them. For example, quite a few companies produce grain free dog foods for those dogs that are allergic to grain.

Think wisely about the human food you give your dog. If you’re worried or unsure about the effect it could have on your pet, don’t give it to them.

The foods listed above are just samples of what you could potentially find in your kitchen that you did not know could be harmful to your dog.

The Proper Etiquette For Dining In Restaurants

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Proper table etiquette in restaurants is just as important as it is at Sunday night dinner. The problem is that many people don’t realize this and if they do choose to throw everything they know of good manners straight out the window when entering the establishment. This is a shame since poor manners reflect directly upon you, your dinner party, and even your country if you are a tourist. Most Canadians understand this so for those that may be visiting or for those that may have forgotten the following is a quick review of what everyone should already know.

While we may say our “Pleases” and “Thank yous” at home we often forget to do this when out and about. Remember, just because someone else is doing the cooking, serving, and cleaning does not give you the right to act rude and ignorant. Unless you are taking tea with the Queen you are not obligated to stand on ceremony but you should certainly be well behaved at least enough to avoid making a fool out of yourself and your dinner party.

So, let us review some basic table manners. One of the major points to remember is to never ever talk with your mouth full of food or drink. Not only is this going to cause a mess but it is also going to be absolutely revolting to your companions and even to the service staff. So do not ask for more drink with your mouth full of salad or bread, it is not only rude but disgusting as well.

Make sure to use your silverware and napkin when needed. They are not just placed there for decoration these items serve a purpose. For example, if you are enjoying a nice juicy prime rib do not tear into it with your fingers and certainly do not gnaw at it like a canine. Instead, use your knife and fork and the napkin as needed. You should be sure to use ‘Please’ and ‘Thank yous’ as needed. This should be especially true for any children in your dinner party.

Children are always welcomed in many restaurant and diners. While well behaved children are an absolute delight, those children who are loud, throw things, and are rude are simply tolerated. Do not let your children run the table this is just not acceptable. Would you allow your child to address you rudely so why let the child address the server rudely? Would your child ever throw things on your floor? Do not let the child do it out in public.

Tipping is always a touchy subject and there are many conflicting views on the subject. Generally you will tip 15 to 20 percent but more is always welcomed by your server. If you are attending a business dinner or luncheon and the host is picking up the bill he will also provide the tip. Do not lay anything else on the table as this is considered rude to the host. If it is agreed before hand that everyone is paying their own bill then you must leave a tip. If it is a large party and gratuity is added you are not required to leave anything more but can if the service was exceptional.

Now, there are several more outdated rules of etiquette that you may or may not choose to follow. An example is passing to the right. In a family style restaurant you will often see the older generation passing the salad bowl or basket of bread to the right. Often times, people will wait until everyone is served before eating. Many people choose to eat after prayer which is said after the meal is served but others simply wait. While this is polite it now depends on the company you keep if you should still follow this etiquette rule. If you are with familiar friends of the same age you probably will not have to wait until everyone has their plate.

Etiquette and manners are important to our modern society. Without which we will possibly cause the collapse of the civilized world. Proper behavior in restaurants is especially important and reflects well on you and those around you. Tourists are often the ones that forget their manners when visiting different countries. You may see out of town visitors and think to yourself that they are rude and vulgar but maybe they are just not aware of local customs. For example Canadians may find it unusual that Americans want their plates cleared away as their done instead of waiting until the end of the meal. So if you travel be aware of rituals, customs, and other points of manner that you may not be used to. Restaurants are a great place to go and relax for lunch or an evening meal but do not do it with some amount of decency and manners.

There are a variety of places that you can go to purchas your meal, you can choose to eat at home with your family and pets and pick up your food at a grocery store, or you can choose to eat out at a restaurant or fast food place.
