The Greatest In The Realm Of Underground Sodas

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Was there ever a greater drink invented than Cola? I don’t think so. The amount of soda I consume is scary, so I guess you could call me an addict.

I love all flavors of soda as well as cola. A big thrill for me is trying out new or as yet undiscovered brands and finding I prefer them to the famous ones, I get a real kick out of that.

Sugar is sugar, its not fructose, sucrose or any other of the ridiculous names they give it. They then try and pass these processed substances off as natural ingredients. I buy soda that says sugar.

I’m going to let you in on some of my favorite soda. These are lesser known brands which are every bit as delicious as the super brands but just don’t have the recognition.

Root beer is one of this country’s biggest selling beverages, and one of the best I’ve ever tasted is the award winning Virgil’s. This is a delicious drink which sadly doesn’t get the recognition it deserves, despite all its prizes.

Also from Virgil’s comes the quite fantastic black cherry vanilla cream soda. You may think that the flavor can’t top the amazing name, but trust me it does.

Boylan’s make, in my opinion, one of the best colas on the market. Their sugar cane cola is exactly what it says on the tin. The sugar cane is blended with the other natural ingredients to create a traditional cola which hits your taste buds in an explosion of flavor.

My last recommendation today is the fusion of green tea and fruit flavors that go to make the great sodas that are manufactured by Steaz. These taste amazing and are much better for you than a typical soda. The flavors include root beer, orange, raspberry and lemon & lime. These are a real treat for your taste buds.

Studying Millstone Coffee Pods Prior To Purchasing

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Millstone Coffee Pods, a name you may not have heard of just yet, is one of the fastest rising names in coffee. There must be some good reason as to why they\’re becoming so popular, considering how many options there are, right? Since coffee pods can be pricey, trying by purchasing from a coffee pod retailer can end up costing you some unnecessary cash. Before you do that, read on to learn if Millstone Coffee Pods are likely to satisfy your needs.

Who Makes Millstone Coffee Pods?

Millstone, which was founded in Everett, Washington, began life more than 25 years ago. The company was the pioneer of the idea of selling whole, un-ground coffee beans to retailers, which is pretty ironic since they\’re very well known for single serve coffee pods nowadays, which is about as opposite of whole beans as you can get. Although the original owner still runs a coffee company in Everett, now called Cascade Coffee Company, he sold the majority of Millstone, along with the name, to Proctor and Gamble in 1996. The names Folgers and Millstone were put together and spun off to create The Folgers Coffee Company. Later in the same year, The J.M. Smucker Company merged with The Folgers Company, although all of the labels have been retained.

Millstone Coffee Pods And My Coffee Pod Maker

Millstone coffee pods can be expected to work just fine with the majority of pod coffee makers out there. They use the Home Cafe coffee pods name, which is synonymous with \”generic coffee pod\”, so unless your coffee pod machine is a weirdo, they\’ll fit. Many people opt for these pods when using a pod holder in their K-Cups machine, as well. Like all quality coffee pods, you\’re likely to get the best cup of coffee by massaging the pod a bit to loosen the grinds from shipping, and wetting the pod before inserting.

What One Can Expect From Millstone Coffee Pods

Although the name has been traded around quite a bit, it seems the various companies who have owned it have made an effort to keep the quality intact. Indeed, although they make no secret of owning it, The J.M. Smucker Company seems to be positioning the brand to be their gourmet coffee pods. This means that Millstone coffee pods can be expected to have a richer, fuller taste than your average brand. Reviews compare them directly to Senseo coffee pods, and all seem to prefer Millstone. Millstone produces more than 30 different varieties of coffee, including decaf coffee pods. Millstone does not currently offer ESE coffee pods, so if you\’re wanting espresso from your pod coffee maker, you\’ll have to look elsewhere.

Obtaining Millstone Coffee Pods

Remote, lower population areas will often have a hard time finding Millstone Coffee Pods. This is because remote areas are far less likely to purchase high end coffees, such as Millstone, so The J.M. Smucker Company avoids having them compete with the better known Folgers name. However, coffee pods are easy and cheap to ship, and you can find them at all sorts of online outlets.

Coffee Pods

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

I\’m sure you\’re asking, as would many; exactly what are coffee pods? Are they little spaceships in which coffee travels? Obviously not, but the term coffee pods doesn\’t exactly jump out at you with an explanation, does it?

What Are Coffee Pod Brewers?

A coffee pod is a small, single serving of coffee that comes wrapped in it\’s own little package with a filter. They\’re only used with coffee pod brewers; they cannot be used with regular coffee brewers, but you really wouldn\’t want to. When it comes to single cups of coffee, though, coffee pods are much more convenient. You don\’t have to worry about buying coffee grounds and filters separately, or pouring enough grinds for four cups of coffee when you just want one. Unfortunately, these conveniences will make your price per cup a bit higher, but only if you regularly want more than one cup. Coffee pods brewers, though still budget friendly, aren\’t as cheap as the old standard just yet. There are also many different manufacturers of coffee pods brewers, and not all of them are compatible with all pods, sometimes leading to confusion as to which brewers use which pods.

Who All Makes Coffee Pods

Fortunately, however, coffee pods are sort of an open format as far as coffee goes. Although they require the special brewers to use, they can be produced by pretty much any company, and many companies to make and sell both pods and brewers, meaning there are quite a few different options when you go hunting for your pods or your brewer. Prices are all over the place, from as little as $5 per package to in excess of $30 per package for the more premium pods. It\’s up to you to taste them both and see if it\’s worth spending the extra money. There are also ways to make your own coffee pods, and it\’s not very difficult, though one of the main reasons people like coffee pods is convenience, and making your own sort of negates those conveniences.

Coffee Pod Brewers Can Be Pricey

Coffee pod brewers range from $10 to well over $400 for personal one cup brewers, and upwards of $1100 for commercial grade brewers. They can be purchased from most regular department stores, as well as online. As with most things, if you have the patience to wait for it, it\’s probably better and cheaper to order it online.

Are Coffee Pods Worth It?

If you haven\’t figured it out yet, coffee pods are quite a bit pricier than the every day coffee makers that have been around for years. The brewer itself will cost you more, the coffee pods aren\’t cheap, and they won\’t last you nearly as long as your typical filter and grounds setup. In return, however, you will get the convenience of having everything in one package, and the ability to brew coffee that\’s much more similar to what the retail places have to offer.

Blue Bottle Coffee Makes A Phenomenal Cup Of Coffee

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

During a recent encounter with an old friend who was visiting from California, the subject of coffee came up. We\’re both avid drinkers and enjoy discussing some of our favorites.

I had told him about a new coffee place by me that I said roasted the best beans I had ever had. At this point, he proceeded to correct me by saying that the best coffee beans he had ever had were in San Francisco, and that he was going to send me some of them.

He was up to two cups per day, and he had never had coffee on a daily basis before this. He couldn\’t help himself, as he truly loved the taste of these beans.

I had to see what all the hype was about at this point. Being the generous friend that he is, he agreed to send me some beans by mail so that I could get a taste of his favorite coffee for myself.

Lo and behold, a package arrived at my door a few days ago with a return address from San Francisco. He had sent me a large bag of these coffee beans, and they came from a company called the Blue Bottle company.

I don\’t have a coffee maker at home, but this wasn\’t a problem. Being the thoughtful friend that he is, he decided to crush the beans in advance for me.

Was it as good as he said it was? After reading many online reviews, I came to learn that he\’s not the only person who absolutely loves this brand, so I was really excited.

I have to say that this was some great coffee. While I\’m not sure that it\’s the best I\’ve ever had, it\’s definitely up there. Anyone on the West Coast or anyone willing to mail order some coffee beans would do fine to try this company\’s beans.
