I would like to start off by saying that the contents of this article only my opinion which is based on the information I have read from expert authors in addition to more than a decade of living and eating the way I have daily. Couple that with my blood work results every 6 months that indicates no deficiencies, I think that this information is valid and very valuable. Perhaps it just works for me, my body type and genetics, I can’t say for certain. But, just like smoking tobacco definitely will have an affect on each one of us with various degrees of health negatives, the green smoothie diet, I feel, could probably affect each one of us with varying degrees of health positives. Try it for yourself, after discussing it with your doctor of course.
The human body was designed to be able to heal naturally right? With all the sick people, that doesn’t seem like the case does it? Maybe it’s an inaccurate statement, and the body is not equipped to heal itself? No! The problem is that people today a) do not supply the body with the proper amount of raw materials, by way of diet for the most part, it requires to become whole again and b) we bombard our body with junk that hinders the performance of the limited number of resources that we actually do provide it.
I’m a huge admirer of raw foods. The suggestion that heating foods past a specific temperature destroying required enzymes that are significant to assimilation makes sense to me. Further, it is implied that to get the most from our food that we should be chewing it it until it’s completely liquefied. Our body has troubles digesting big pieces of food. Also, I really feel that human beings can survive off of a diet of largely fruits and dark green leafy vegetables, with the occasional healthy fats. For the healthy fats, avocados, soaked nuts and seeds is all I eat.
My main meals each an every day consist of plenty of raw fruits and green vegetables in the form of green smoothies. Smoothies, being essentially liquefied, my body has no issues assimilating the nutrients.
A huge hurdle for a lot of people when switching diets, and a big one for myself is managing unhealthy cravings. Just like someone that has addiction to drugs or alcohol must go through a detox to be able to heal, we pretty much have to do the same thing. Our cells are made up of stuff from the food that we have ingested in the past. The body generally craves much of the same unhealthy foods that contribute to the makings of the individual sick cells in our body. For drug detoxes, many times, dry sauna therapy is used to removes the drugs through perspiration. That generally helps eliminate the physical drug cravings which will allow the individual an improved chance of remaining sober. For us, adjusting our eating habits may possibly induce the clearing of toxic foods as well which can be naturally removed in our poop, sweat and urine. But, we may still crave those foods while some of the toxins in our cells are still present.
I find that instantly after having the first swallow of my green smoothie the cravings for sugar, salt, meat, grease, etc began to calm down. After I was done drinking the smoothie, the unhealthy cravings disappeared completely and I would be fulfilled. The problem then was that the unhealthy cravings would come again as I became hungry. So I started to make sure I was on top of it and would have another green smoothie ready before the cravings would come back, or shortly after they started. The cravings eventually subsided for good as I cleaned out my system. After that I started to crave greens instead!
